My Letter to Senators
In my last blog, “Join Me,” I urged people to write senators telling them not to vote for Trump’s “big beautiful bill” as it is now. Senators do count letters they receive, even from non-constituents. This is what I’m sending out.
I implore you not to vote for Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” in its current form. I have many reasons for this.
First, it will add immense amounts to the nation’s deficit -- $2.8 trillion dollars by most reckonings.
Second, it will implement large cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and even Medicare –- taking from the poor to give to the rich. Isn’t there something backwards about that?
Third, it will ratify Trump’s abuse of Congress. It is Congress, not the President, who is supposed to declare war. It is the House of Representatives, not the President, who is supposed to make crucial economic decisions, like implementing tariffs.
Finally, it ties Congress to a president who is losing the approval of the majority of the population. Trump is already “under water” on every issue, including immigration. This was evident during last week’s No King’s March, when 5,000,000 Americans demonstrated against a president who wasted $45,000,000 on a poorly attended military parade in Washington. The way the soldiers walked – out of step, slowly, not in military formation – demonstrated what they thought of this.
At some point, you will need to meet with your constituents and persuade them to re-elect you. Please support your own interest and the nation’s by rejecting most of this bill!
